REPORT #4: I'm Giving Away A Diamond Necklace
Share

I just got back from a 48~ hour trip to Montreal and can’t wait to be able to tell you why I went (hint: it’s been in the making for literally four years 🥰).

BTS from Montreal

Until then… Mother’s Day is around the corner, which means you know I included an SFK-approved gift guide in this week’s newsletter. I also got tons of amazing questions on Instagram for WWSFKD? yesterday, so I chose some favorites and expanded upon them below.

Yes, you could win this!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I’m doing a giveaway – this diamond necklace from Jewelry Bar. It’s stunning and if you give this to your mother figure, you will 1000% win Child of the Year. Or you can keep it for yourself hehe.

To be entered to win, all you need to do is subscribe to this newsletter (any tier), so if this was sent to you by a friend, subscribe here!

WEEKLY REPORT

READING: For her birthday, I gave my friend Sophia the book Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin. It’s one of those books that, at the start, I felt like it was not for me (I usually download a sample for free on my Kindle to see if I would like to read it first). At first, it seems like a story about a boy playing video games, which typically gives me the ick. But as I kept reading, I discovered that it was actually a story about the kind of friendship that I have with Sophia and many of my best friends– unconditional, long-lasting, and with a bond so strong, it survives hangovers, bad relationships and terrible trips together. While movies and TV shows often center on romantic love, let’s not forget the vital role friendship plays in our lives. More stories about friendship, please! 🙏

EATING: My COO Macy told me that she invested in Chipotle stock, which went up because Chipotle is trending on TikTok. These days, I have become more and more interested in investing my money into businesses I believe in. However, when I got back from Montreal last night, Fefe surprised me with a bowl from Chipotle. It was extremely delicious in the moment, but my stomach has been hurting ever since. So it looks like this is a company I won’t be investing in.

PROUD OF: Have you seen the new Joe & The Juice breakfast campaign with Paris Hilton x Alix Earle? I love crossovers – so getting Paris, the Y2K icon, and Alix, the Gen-Z icon, in a room together is such a smart way of getting eyes on the brand. It makes me so nostalgic for my Joe & The Juice Campaign from last summer and honestly, I still think about The Plot shake every day. I’m going to deep dive all of the details of this campaign (how it came about, the creative direction, the launch plan, BTS content, etc.) in a future newsletter.

OBSESSING: I just read this article in the New York Times, in which Glen Powell, the co-star of the Rom-Com Anyone But You openly admits he and co-star Sydney Sweeney faked their real life romance in order to sell tickets… I was definitely confused about their overt flirting on the press tour because Sydney is engaged, but then, Glen Powell and his girlfriend broke up, which led to their romance’s plausibility. Regardless, it worked. Their plan succeeded beyond the studio’s calculations - Anyone But You has already made more than $200M worldwide (on a budget of $25M), is #1 on Netflix, and it is being discussed as the film that revived the Rom-Com genre. Kudos to Sydney, who apparently was the mastermind behind the idea. Sure, it’s an old trick that has been used since old Hollywood days. But the fact that, in 2024, surrounded by online sleuths and Deuxmoi, they were able to have millions of people fall for it is outstanding marketing.

TRAVELING: Next week, I’m off to Los Angeles to meet with my management team!!! In February, I decided to take the leap and make a major change by letting go of my managers for 6 years and signing with a new management team in Los Angeles. I love my former managers - they were the ones who took a chance on me when I was 22 years old, had less than 10K followers on Instagram, and worked as an associate producer at Refinery29. They were the ones who took Let’s Fucking Date to the next level by convincing brands to buy into the show (remember how iconic it was when Bumble sponsored a month’s worth of episodes?!).

But, I believe that not everything amazing is meant to last forever. Sometimes it’s important to take a risk and try something new. In January, I picked a word for the year which was focus. I made a pact with myself that I would do everything I could to follow my dream of writing and directing a movie. This meant doing less influencing and more writing, and doing whatever I could to break into film and television. This also meant hiring a team that had were based in Los Angeles. As scary as it was to let go of my previous managers, I’m really proud of myself for making the decision. They handled it really well and have been so unbelievably supportive of all my career pursuits since.

Anyway, I’m going to Los Angeles because I’ve been working on a script for the past couple of months, so I am meeting with a bunch of executives to network and build relationships. If I’ve learned anything, it’s that the relationships you have are what will push your career forward, so it’s a smart move to allot time and effort to do just that. At the end of the day, when people hire someone for a job, they will often choose someone they already have a connection to. Networking is so important, and it’s important to create connections without necessarily needing something in return at that moment. So the point of the trip is to meet new people, establish connections, and order the Hailey Bieber smoothie at Erewhon.

STREAMING:

The Jinx Part Two - streaming weekly on MAX. If you haven’t seen The Jinx, The life And Deaths of Robert Durst, what are you doing???? The HBO documentary series is INSANE, and now we get a part two, which is the continuation of the six-part documentary series that aired almost 10 years ago. It was as revelatory as it was controversial, exposing how rich people can avoid prosecution (nothing new, but still outrageous).

*SPOILER* The season finale of part one was almost stranger than fiction. The producers of the documentary somehow got an on-camera “confession” from Durst. Much was written about this so-called confession in which Durst said, “What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course” while he was mic'd during a bathroom break. Was he being serious? Was the clip manipulated by the filmmaker for effect? I’m hoping Part Two brings some answers to these (and other) questions.

MOTHER’S DAY GIFT GUIDE

Next Sunday is Mother’s Day! I know it can be a sensitive time for many, so my heart is with anyone who is mourning the loss of their mom, grandmother, someone who is currently trying to be a mom, or someone who doesn’t have a mother figure in their life. You aren’t alone and I love you.

If you are looking for a gift to get a mother figure in your life, are some SFK approved picks that they will LOVE (and if you don’t procrastinate like me, will come in time 😉):

  1. Soft Services Hand Cream -  This overnight repair treatment cushion-coats hands in retinol and moisturizer to make them feel soft and look young. Get one for your mom and one for you. Trust me.

  2. David Yurman Bracelet - Maybe use her credit card for this one… or does that defeat the purpose? LOL.

  3. Perfume - I’ve repurchased this perfume twice.

  4. Hair Mist - Everyone has been raving about this, and I’m not surprised given how much I love nearly every single one of Rare Beauty’s products.

  5. Facial at Fouquets - This place is so chic and IMO, one of the best facials in the city. They also have pools you can enjoy before your appointment.

  6. Brunch Reservation - Pick her favorite spot. And if you’re not sure, Pastis, Ruby’s West Village, and Salt’s Cure ($18 for two pancakes, 2 eggs any style, and sausage) always hit.

  7. Flowers - You can never go wrong with a beautiful bouquet from Plantshed.

  8. ALO - They’re having a 30% off sitewide sale right now so you can do mommy & me pilates.

  9. Duolingo Subscription - So she can learn a new language! My mom is learning French to be able to communicate better with Felix’s family. How cute is she?

  10. Framebridge Print - You could get her a framed poster or picture of the two of you. Always hits!

WWSFKD?

Q: Feeling insecure about attending fancy wedding with new bf

A: Fancy wedding??? If you weren't ready for this, you wouldn't have the opportunity. As someone who just attended a very fancy wedding in Egypt, where I knew only a handful of people (Felix just knew the bride and groom lmao), I can’t tell you how much fun we had. We were so excited to celebrate the love of another couple, in a beautiful place, dressed up to the nines – but also, we used it as a networking opportunity where we could rub elbows with powerful people. For example, I was seated next to the former CEO of TikTok at the wedding dinner and we talked a ton about the future of content. Now I have his and his girlfriend’s number. Within 45 minutes, I made what could be a life-changing connection… or it was just a really nice conversation during a beautiful wedding.

On left: Me & Felix. On right: Me and my new friend, Brian Kelly (The Points Guy).

So here’s my advice:

  1. Buy or rent a sick outfit. Shop Pickle has everything, including some of my clothes!

  2. Channel your inner SFK by hyping yourself up in the mirror before getting to the ceremony.

  3. Romanticize this event like you're the main character and this wedding is a big scene in the movie of your life.

Even if the people suck, you’re all dressed up and get to dance the night away with your boyfriend and you get to witness a union between two people, which is always inspiring.

Have fun, make friends and don't overthink it. No one is thinking about you. And life is too short!

Q: Dress for graduation?

A: Congrats baby!! I nearly fainted from the heat during my Duke graduation many moons ago lmao. Here are some options!

  • You can never go wrong with a short white dress (and you’ll be able to reuse it for summer. I LOVE this one. I’m so sad I didn’t order this in time and now it’s sold out of my size. It’s so cute and perfect if your school is in a hot climate Other white contenders: one, two, three and four!

  • Helsa Dupe

  • Pretty in Pink - I wore the long, green version of this dress to a wedding and have never gotten more compliments on anything.

  • I have this dress in white but I LOVE it in green. It holds your tits up, I promise.

Q: BF asked me to move in with him. We both know we will get married but it’s only been 6 months. I have no anxiety about it & am always there anyways

If you aren’t anxious about it and this is a decision you and your boyfriend want to make together, I don’t see why you wouldn’t do it. My parents moved in together after two weeks of dating because they simply could not afford NYC rent. I totally understand it from a financial standpoint, and if you’re spending most of your time there then why not?! Worst case scenario? You move out. I get questions like this a lot and I feel like they stem from an anxiety about what other people might think, but what I’ve realized this past year is that no one actually cares or knows what goes on in your relationship. As long as it makes both of you happy, that’s all people should care about.

Q: Dating for 3.5 months, he’s showing up in all the ways, but he’s not ready for a label
